This month and for one date in April the Broward County Library (in select locations) will feature events that celebrate women's suffrage. The story of suffrage (which is the movement that led to giving all women the right to vote in the United States) will be told and presented by the League of Women Voters of Broward County. The events are as follows:
- Monday, March 16, 6:30PM-7:30PM: South Regional
- Wednesday, March 25, 6:30PM-7:30PM: Southwest Regional Library
- Saturday, March 28, 11:00AM-12:00PM, Main Library
- Saturday, April 18, 3:00PM-4:00PM, North Regional
In addition, to honor of Women’s History Month, Broward County Library and World and Eye Arts Center offer a series of free arts workshops. The series celebrates women’s power, creativity and self-discovery and offers skills in poetry writing, storytelling, mask performance, art-making and dance. Each workshop focuses on a different aspect of creativity to be displayed at the Performance Festival. Attendees may join one or all workshops; Eventbrite registration is requested:
- Saturday, March 14, 2-5PM: Women Write On! A Poetry Playshop, with Marie Whitman at Main Library
- Saturday, March 14, 1-4PM: Storytelling Workshop, with Helen Reynolds at South Regional/Broward College Library
- Saturday, March 21, 2:30- 5PM: Haitian Folklore Dance Lab, with Weiselande Cesar, African American Research Library & Cultural Center
- Sunday March 22, 1-4PM: Mask Making and Performancewith Jean Minuchin at Northwest Regional Library
- Saturday March 28, 1-4PM: What’s Your Elephant? An Art Making Workshop, with Niki Lopez at Pompano Beach Library and Cultural Center
