Did you know that November is Native American Heritage Month? Our nation is a country of many immigrants but we must not forget the people who were the first to inhabit this land long before most of our ancestors arrived here. November has been set as the month to educate and learn about the first Americans and here is a list of resources to explore for the entire family:

  1. https://www.pbs.org/specials/native-american-heritage-month/ - Watch and learn about "Standing Bear" Native American civil rights leader who fought in court to have Indians recognized as a "person" under the law.
  2. https://www.ducksters.com/history/native_americans/seminole_tribe.php - Native Americans for kids
  3. http://www.native-languages.org/kids.htm - American Indian languages for kids
  4. https://nativeamericatoday.com/ - Native American news
  5. https://www.500nations.com/Florida_Tribes.asp - Florida Tribes info
  6. https://www.nps.gov/subjects/npscelebrates/native-american-heritage-month.htm - National Park Service

After just a few minutes of researching Native culture in Florida and in the U.S. in general, there are many sites to explore. Get searching to have some fun learning about a culture most of us know very little about. I recommend spending some time learning about our local tribes here in South Florida, The Seminole Tribe and/or The Miccosukee Tribe
