By Gillian Pridgen of Macaroni Kid Coral Springs & Macaroni Kid Boca Raton February 2, 2021

Black History Month 2021 is here and families around the nation (and other countries) recognize the contributions and achievements made by African Americans. The theme this year is 'family', a perfect fit no doubt for Macaroni Kid readers. Let's take a look to reflect on seven Black families (in no particular order) that have made an impact on American lives.

The Jacksons: Known for their musical hits spanning over 40 years, most notably through two of the youngest members of the Jackson family, Janet and Michael.

The Smiths: All four of the Smiths are known to most Americans, and in particular Will Smith. The Smiths do it all in the entertainment world, singing, acting and dancing and let's not forget old school rapping originals from Will Smith during his days as "The Fresh Prince".

The Wayans: Want to laugh? You will if you catch one of the many Wayans movies or shows. This family (of 10 siblings!) has been making us laugh for decades. One of the most remembered is 90s television series, "In Living Color" or the horror spoof, "Scary Movie".

The Nicholas Brothers: This dynamic duo goes all the way back to the 1940s but their dancing is timeless. Click HERE to check out one of their greatest dance sequences.

The Kings: This family needs no introduction with one mention of Martin Luther King, Jr., who is perhaps the most recognized civil rights activist in the world. His children continue his legacy to this day.

The Johnsons: Starting off with John H. Johnson who was the founder of the largest black-owned publishing company. This family shared their creative vision to publish a positive image of black families with American readers for over 70 years. Most remembered for Ebony and JET Magazines.

The Obamas: Could not create a list without this family. The first African American First family of the United States. Despite political parties or leanings, this family remains extremely popular.
